Stickley Brothers early desk chair with heart cut out design and tapered legs.

Stickley Brothers early desk chair featuring a beautifully shaped crest rail above reverse tapered back slats with heart cut out design. The tapered legs below the spline jointed solid saddle seat begin as square stock, about half way down, each of the four corners are tapered and the leg gradually becomes octagonal where it reaches the floor. This shaping of the legs and the heart cut out designs are strong evidence of the English Arts & Crafts movement influence in this early Stickley Brothers design. This chair still bears the original Stickley Brothers signature oval paper label and the stenciled catalogue number 705-602 1/2. There is an oval shadow over the stenciled numbers and paper fibers under a nail head. I expect that the paper label was originally attached there & at some time, the paper label was removed and adhered to it's current location under the seat. These thick paper labels were usually attached with a single nail head & no adhesive. They have become brittle over the last 100 years and are more often in pieces or completely missing, leaving just a nail head and paper fibers in the center of an oval shadow. Measures approximately: 38 1/2" x 15 1/4" x 16" Price: $1200
